One Book, One Minnesota author talk

December 9, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

One Book | One Minnesota is a new statewide book club that invites Minnesotans of all ages to read a common title and come together virtually to enjoy, reflect and discuss. Through Ebooks Minnesota, anyone in the state can access the digital book for free, even if they don’t have a library card. Links to resources and more information can be found at thefriends.org/onebook.

Join your fellow Minnesotans on Thursday, December 9th at 7:00 pm to discuss the book with author Kao Kalia Yang. To register for the Zoom meeting, visit: https://thefriends.org/minnesota-center-for-the-book/one-book-one-minnesota/ Once you’ve read the book and, hopefully, attended the author talk join your librarians on Tuesday, December 14th at 7 pm on Zoom.

Registration is required to access the Zoom meeting. Contact the library at library@marshalllyonlibrary.org to register.

The Sixth Chapter features The Song Poet: A Memoir of My Father by Kao Kalia Yang.

The Song Poet retells the story of Kao Kalia Yang’s father, a Hmong refugee who was driven from the mountains of Laos to a refugee camp to Minnesota by America’s Secret War. Kao Kalia Yang was six when she and her family arrived in America. She is the author of nonfiction and picture books for adults and children.

Links for the December 9th author discussion, resources, and more information can be found at thefriends.org/onebook.

One Book | One Minnesota is presented by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, as the Minnesota Center for the Book, in partnership with State Library Services and sponsored by Spire Credit Union. Program partners also include Blackstone Audio; Council of Regional Public Library System Administrators; Mackin VIAMinitex; the Minnesota Department of Education; and Soho Press. This program is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund, as well as through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
