2021 – By the Numbers

The start of a new year is always a time to look forward with anticipation; but, it is also a time to reflect on the year that has passed.  We’ve been reflecting on how our community utilizes library resources.  We are excited to show how YOU used your Marshall-Lyon County Library in 2021!

In 2021, 117,267 physical materials were checked out from the buildings of the Marshall, Balaton, and Cottonwood libraries.  Additionally, 20,763 digital materials were checked out.  These are both increases from 2020!

The five most popular adult fiction books were:

  1. The Four Winds (Hannah)
  2. Ocean Prey (Sandford)
  3. Dark Sky (Box)
  4. The Last Thing He Told Me (Dave)
  5. The Return (Sparks)

In regards to the non-fiction section, the following sections got the most use:

  • 600s (cooking, pets, medical, home DIY)
  • 500s (science, animals)
  • 700s (crafts, sports)

Our Library of Amusements section saw a lot of action in 2021 as well!  You checked out a total of:

  • 974 puzzles
  • 477 toys and games
  • 291 internet hotspots
  • 190 movie binge boxes
  • 176 video games
  • 93 cake pans
  • 67 memory kits
  • 60 children’s World of Wonder backpacks
  • 17 book club kits
