Searching Our Catalog

Did you know that you can search our entire catalog from the comfort of your own home? We’ve covered how to place holds, but it’s helpful to know how to most easily find the materials you want, too!

1. Visit the Catalog

To begin, go to

2. Log In

Here, log in with your library card number and PIN/password. Your library card number is the number under the barcode on your card with no spaces. You set up your PIN/password when you first received your library card. If you can’t remember it, contact us!

3. Using Search

Once you’re logged in, you will see all of your checked-out materials and items on hold. We’re going to ignore those for now, and turn our attention to the search bar.

We will cover Advanced Search in another tutorial.

In our above example, we’ve searched for books by the author, Danielle Steel. And as you can see, our 444 returned results can be a little intimidating to sort through!

4. Narrowing Search Results

To the left of your search results, you will find a list of tools to help you narrow your search.

If you want to limit your results to items that are currently available for pickup from a library nearest you, select it from the menu. For our example, we’ll choose Marshall-Lyon County Library.

Next, select Limit to Currently Available Items.

As you can see, this drops our list of search results dramatically! You can go even further by selecting from the locations of searched materials–simply select Adult Fiction or Audiobook, for example, depending on what you’re looking for.

5. Placing Holds

We already have an excellent guide on how to place holds, which will help you to reserve the materials you find in your search results!
